Mahfud MD: “Democracy Could Not be Left to Stand Alone”

Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (The Court), Moh. Mahfud MD when becoming the keynote speaker before the teachers of the region of Sumenep, under the theme of “Dissemination of Increased Understanding of the Values of Democracy through Political Education for Political Infrastructure and the Community” in Madura, (15/11).


Jakarta, MKOnline-Mahfud MD visited Sumenep to give the material in the event of “Dissemination of Increased Understanding of the Values of Democracy through Political Education for Political Infrastructure and the Community” in one of the hotels in Sumenep, Madura on Monday (15/11/10). In his speech, Mahfud gave a lot of materials on constitutional democracy in Indonesia to the participants who were mostly school teachers.

“We conduct reform because we want to develop democracy correctly, because the democracy of the past is considered a failure for growing rampant corruption, collusion and nepotism in every institution in this country which until now have put our life in chains,” asserted Mahfud. 

Currently, the constitution has been created to form a harmonious government, where a pattern of life is regulated by state institutions having checks and balances. “Therefore, Indonesia currently has seven state institutions having equal structure in terms of the level with their functions supplementary to each other and with mutual supervision” stated Mahfud. 

The constitution and the law have given a good democracy and what is currently needed is the implementation which needs to be supervised and supported. “ Democracy cannot be left to stand alone, and that’s why a lot of frauds in democracy” added Mahfud. 

After giving the materials during the dissemination program, Mahfud MD had time to visit Asta Tinggi which is the graveyard area of Sumenep kings. (ddy/mh)
